Background and objectives: Urinary tract infection is one of the most nosocomial infections with different antibiotic resistance pattern. This study was aimed to investigate the pattern of susceptibility and resistance of uropathogenic E. coli strains that had been isolated from those who referred to the private laboratories in Khorram-Abad city.

Materials and Methods: This empirical study was conducted on 253 urinary strains. After identification of the strains. by standard biochemical tests, the pattern of the susceptibility of bacterial strains was investigated by Kirby - Bauer Disk Diffusion Susceptibility Test according to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute,( CLSI).

Results: The most resistant strains were for co-trimoxazole (61.26%), ampicillin (52.57%), cephalexin (49.01%), nalidixic acid (44.26%), respectively. On the other hand, the most sensitive to antibiotics were nitrofurantoin (83.79%), amikacin (79.05%), enrofloxacin (68.77%) and ciprofloxacin (65.61%), respectively.

Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it is suggested using nitrofurantoin and amikacin as the first antibiotics for the treatment of uropathogenic E.coli infections and co-trimoxazole and ampicillin should be avoided.
