Background and Objectives: In recent years Infant Mortality Rate )IMR) has been decreased in the developed countries but this rate is still high in the developing countries. This study aimed to investigate the causes of neonatal mortality.

Materials and Methods: This descriptive-cross-sectional study was performed on 110 hospitalized neonatal in NICU of Amiralmomenin Educational Hospital of Zabol University of medical sciences. Neonatal Mortality’s Questionnaire was used to collect the data. For data analysis, descriptive statistics was used.

Results: The most common causes of mortality were prematurity and low birth weight.

Conclusion: Special care for premature and low birth weight infant and strengthening health care programs and emphasizing the need to identify high risk groups should be the priorities in decreasing the rate of neonatal mortality.
