Background and Objective: Plasma levels of adhesion molecule and lipid profile have emerged as an important indicator of risk for cardiovascular diseases. Exercise training can be effective in the improvement of the endothelial dysfunction. The purpose of this study was the effect of eight weeks intermittent medium intensity training with curcumin intake on serum levels of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1in menopause fat rats.
.Materials and Methods: In this experimental study 28 Wistar menopause fat rats aged 24months divided into four groups randomly: control supplement training and training + supplement (7 rats each group). Training program was planed for 8 weeks and 3 session per week each session consisted of 10 sets activity in one minute with intensity of 50% and 2 minutes rest between sets. In the first week subjects started with 14 meters per minute and increase their speed to 28 meters per minute till eight week. Blood samples were taken 48 hours after the last training session and measured the levels of ICAM-1،VCAM-1, triglyceride and total cholesterol. One-way analysis of variance and Pearson’s correlation coefficient were used.
Results: The results showed ICAM-1 levels decreased in experimental groups that in comparison with control group it was significant (p≤0.05). VCAM-1 levels decreased in experimental groups but was not significant (p>0.05) Between ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 levels was not significant correlation. Triglyceride and total cholesterol levels decreased in experimental groups but were not significant (p>0.05).
Conclusion: It is probably effective in preventing cardiac diseases with the implementation of medium intensity interval training and use of curcumin that decrease the cardiac risk factors.
