Background and Objectives: Genu valgum is a complication in which the hips are angled inward and the knees come in contact with the ankles apart. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of 8 weeks training with elastic band on frequency spectrum of lower limb muscles in genu valgum patients during running.
Materials and Methods: The present study was a clinical trial study. This study was done at University of Mohaghegh Ardabili in 2019. 24 male students (20-30 years old) were randomly divided into control (n=12) and experimental (n=12) groups. Corrective exercises were performed for 8 weeks using elastic band for the experimental group. The control group did not perform any exercise during this period. The electrical activity of selected muscles was recorded by electromyography system. Data were analyzed using independent t-test and paired t-test.
Results: Findings showed a significant increase in the frequency spectrum of rectus femoris (p=0.028; d=2.495) and semitendinosus muscles (p=0.019; d=1.682) after training.
Conclusion: In genu valgus individuals, increasing vastus medialis frequency content could lead to knee joint stability. However, further studies are needed to better establish this issue.
