Abstract

Background and Objectives: Improving the psychological states of physically disabled individuals can make their lives easier. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of psychodramas group therapy onassertiveness, self–acceptance, and the spirit of gratitude among physically disabled people in Isfahan.
Materials and Methods: The research method was quasi-experimental with experimental and control groups with a pretest-posttest design. The statistical population of the study consisted of all physically disabled people in Isfahan Disabled People’s Association in 2020. Of them, forty subjects were conveniently selected and randomly assigned in two groups (each group 20 persons). The experimental group received eight ninety-minute sessions of psychodrama group therapy while the control group recieved no intervention. To collect information, three questionnaires were used: self-acceptance scale of Gambrill and Ritchie, assertiveness scale of Chamberlain and Haga, and gratitude scale of McCullough. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics (means and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (multivariate analysis of covariance).
Results: The results showed that psychotherapy group therapy had a significant effect on assertiveness (p<0.001, F=16.54), self-acceptance (p<0.001, F=210.62), and gratitude (p<0.001, F=33.44) of people with physical disabilities.
Conclusion: Psychodrama method was effective in improving assertiveness, unconditional acceptance, and gratitude in people with physical disabilities in Isfahan. Therefore, this method can be considered to improve the mentioned variables among the physically disabled people.

Abstract

Toxoplasmosis is one of the significant zoonoses, and about one-third of the world population possess anti-Toxoplasma gondii antibody titers. From veterinary and public health perspective, the disease causes abortion in small ruminants and pregnant women, as well as brain complications in immunocompromised subjects. Although, a century has passed since the discovery of this interesting opportunistic protozoa, its pathogenic mechanisms and genotypes are still being explored. Current review deals with this opportunistic infection at a glance. There exists special interest in Toxoplasma infection researches in last two decades, with especial emphasis on the seroepidemiology in at-risk populations, genotyping in various samples, anti-Toxoplasma drug discovery, as well as vaccination approaches against toxoplasmosis. Current review highlights different aspects of Toxoplasma infection and implies the potential gaps and research fields for further exploration.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: People with stuttering have lost their positive attitude towards themselves and their ability to communicate and show little desire to participate in social communication. The aim of the present study was to compare the effect of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) with acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) on dimensions of emotion regulation in adults with stuttering.
Materials and Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental type with two experimental groups and one a control group, which was carried out with a pre-test, post-test, and follow-up design. The statistical population included all adults aged 18 to 40 with stuttering who referred to speech therapy and psychology centers in Isfahan city in 2022-2023. The sample size was 45 people who were purposefully selected and randomly divided into two experimental groups and one control group (15 people in each group). The experimental groups received ACT and MBSR treatments during 8 sessions of 90 minutes, while the control group did not receive any intervention. Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (Gross and John, 2003) was used to collect data. Data were analyzed using two-way repeated measures ANOVA.
Results: The results of the study indicated the effect of MBSR and ACT on emotion regulation dimensions of stuttering adults (p<0.001), and the effectiveness of both methods was similar (p>0.05).
Conclusion: According to the results, active specialists in the field of stuttering can consider the use of MBSR and ACT in the treatment of these people, along with other treatments.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Spiritual intelligence is a key factor in coping with the challenges and stress that come with working in demanding environments, such as nursing. This study aimed to assess the level of spiritual intelligence among nurses in Iran.
Materials and Methods: In this systematic review, an electronic search was conducted for English articles using the keywords "Nurse", "Spiritual Intelligence", "Iran", and "Hospital" in the PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Ovid databases. Additionally, Persian articles were searched using the keywords "Spiritual Intelligence", "Nurse", "Iran", and "Hospital" in the academic databases of Jihad University (Scientific Information Database; SID), the Iranian Nursing Publications Index (Iranian Nursing Index; Nindex), Magiran, and Iranmedex, covering the period from 2010 to 2022. Articles were extracted in 2023.
Results: A total of 142 articles were extracted, and finally, 30 articles were analyzed. Most of the studies reported the general scores of nurses' spiritual intelligence as being in the average or higher range. Spiritual intelligence was found to have a statistically significant relationship with various variables, including clinical competence, quality of nursing care, nursing performance, emotional intelligence, self-efficacy, mental health, resilience, stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, empathy, physical activity, general health, moral behavior, psychological well-being, patient support, life satisfaction, job stress, perceived stress, nurses' talent management, and happiness (p>0.05).
Conclusion: Since spiritual intelligence can effectively enhance the quality of services, it is recommended that policymakers in the healthcare system implement necessary planning and training programs to improve and promote spiritual intelligence.
