Abstract

Background and Objectives: One of the main needs of the patients is receiving clear and adequate information . Nurses are often the first educator s to them. The present study has been designed to explore the barriers to patient education from the viewpoints of nurses and nurse managers in hospitals of Rafsanjan University of Medical Sciences in 2008.

Materials and Methods : In this descriptive cross - sectional study , 253 nurses and nurse managers were assasssed . Data was collected by two -part resaercher- made questionnaire include demographic characteristics of participants and barriers to patient education (27 phrases ). Data were analyzed by SPSS software using descriptive statistical tests (such as frequency distribution, mean, SD) and independent t-test .

Results : Results indicated that there was no significant difference between total mean score of nurse managers and staff nurses about barriers of patient education including environmental factors, patient related factors, and nurse related factors (3.98±0.54 vs 3.82±0.56, 3.50±0.75 vs 3.40±0.69 and 3.35±0.98 vs 3.10±0.89).

Viewpoint of participants were different about the "lack of planning of patient education as a routine duty (p = 0.006 ) lack of educational materials"(p=0.013) and" lack of patient knowledge about patient education as one of his/her rights"(p=0.037)

Conclusion : Regarding nurses and nurse managers beliefs about their educational role and in order to eliminate barriers to patient education measures such as adequate nursing staff, preparation of pamphlets and booklets for patient education , adequate budgeting for education and proper encourage ment means for nurses are essential.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: In carrying out research activities, sometimes there are problems and obstacles that identifying and studying their factors, can help to solve them. Understanding these factors in academic and research communities can improve the relationship between researchers and research users, and can actually cause problem-solving process to facilitate the use of research findings. This study intends to investigate the views of researchers about the barriers affecting research activities and take effective steps to promote research activities.

Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted through Census. The population consisted of the entire faculty members of Birjand University of Medical Sciences, in 2012. Among the 119 questionnaires distributed, 102 were reviewed. The Research instrument was a questionnaire in six areas: financial, facilities, professional, scientific, personal, and organizational-managerial barriers which was designed in five-choice Likert scale. Data was analyzed through using descriptive statistics and Friedman two-way analysis of variance by ranks.

Results: Faculty members, confirmed the effects of all the obstacles in research activities, but organizational-managerial barriers (3.73±0.63), financial barriers (3.62±0.72) and professional barriers (3.61±0.62) had the greatest effects, respectively, and scientific barriers (3.15±0.93) had the lowest effect.

Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that researchers have the motivation to do research and attention to the problems, solutions such as enabling researchers to use new technologies in the creation of research teams, and taking advantage of research experts in the various stages of medical sciences research can have a positive impact in addressing the problems and barriers to research.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: The present study aimed to evaluate the barriers to general medicine dissertation implementation in Zahedan University of Medical Sciences from the perspective of faculty members in 2017.
Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study, a self-administered questionnaire was distributed among 100 faculty members of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences using census method and 80 questionnaires were completed. Data were analyzed using Chi-square test.
Results: 49 (62.7%) of supervisors presented inadequate education of students in literature review, 32 (41.8%) lack of sufficient information about research priorities of the country, 29 (32.8%) lack of student guidance in theses writing (p=0.018) and 39 (46.3%) the statistical analysis of the results and their misunderstanding by the student as the main problems.
Conclusion: The results showed that the most important obstacle for faculty members was inadequate education of the students in the review of literature and articles. In this regard, holding research methodology workshops can be effective.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Sustainable development and progress in different aspects of life of people in the country, especially the health system, requires attention to research and its barriers. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the research barriers from the perspective of undergraduate students of Rafsanjan University of Medical Sciences.
Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study, 130 undergraduate students were studied by stratified random sampling in 2019. Data collection tools comprised demographic, personal barriers, and organizational barriers. The questionnaire was completed as a self-report. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percent, mean and standard deviation), independent t-test, and one-way analysis of variance.
Results: The mean and standard deviation of age of students was 20.98±1.43. In the field of personal barriers, insufficient familiarity with statistical principles and methods had the highest mean score (3.75±1.04). The long and time consuming research had the highest mean score in the organizational field (3.83±4.82).
Conclusion: The results of this study showed that increasing students' awareness of the research method, proper communication between officials and students, and increasing material and spiritual prosperity in order to reduce barriers to research seems necessary.
