Abstract:   (247 Views)
Background and Objectives: Multiple sclerosis is one of the most common chronic, progressive, and autoimmune diseases of the central nervous system, which affects the quality of people's lives in various areas including health, employment, economic, social, emotional, and family. Therefore, the current research was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of emotion-focused therapy on the mindfulness and affective capital of women with multiple sclerosis.
Materials and Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population included all women with multiple sclerosis in the city of Isfahan in 2023. Using a purposive sampling method, 30 women were selected and randomly assigned into the experimental group (15 people) and the control group (15 people). The data were collected with Golparvar's Affective Capital (2006) and Baer's Five-Facet Mindfulness Questionnaires (2015). The intervention of emotion-focused therapy was conducted based on the protocol of Greenberg and Goldman (2019) in 12 sessions for 60 minutes on the experimental group, and the control group did not receive any intervention. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA).
Results: Emotion-focused therapy was able to significantly improve mindfulness and its components including observation, description, action with mindfulness, non-judgment and non-reaction, and emotional capital and its components including positive affect pseudo-state and feeling of energy and happiness in the experimental group compared to the control group (p<0.001).
Conclusion: The present study showed that emotion-focused therapy is effective in improving mindfulness and affective capital in multiple sclerosis patients in Isfahan. Therefore, it is recommended to use this approach to increase mindfulness and affective capital in women with multiple sclerosis.
