Background and Objectives: Having a disabled child significantly affects the psychological state of parents, causes individual and interpersonal problems in the family, especially in mothers, so they need therapeutic interventions. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of mindfulness training on mental health, marital satisfaction, and sleep quality of mothers with cochlear implanted child.
Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study had a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population included all mothers who had cochlear implanted child in exceptional hearing schools of Tabriz City in spring 2024. Thirty individuals were selected using purposeful sampling method and randomly assigned into two intervention and control groups (15 individuals each group). The intervention group received 8 sessions of 90 minutes of mindfulness training and the control group did not receive any intervention during the research period. Data collection was done using Ryff’s Mental Health Questionnaire (1989), Enrich’s Marital Satisfaction (1998) and Pittsburgh’s Sleep Quality (1989) Questionnaires. The data were analyzed using analysis of covariance.
Results: The results showed that mindfulness training had a significant effect on increasing the average score of mental health (F=79.220, p<0.001), increasing the average score of marital satisfaction (F=30.833, p<0.001), and increasing the average sleep quality (F=37.756, p<0.001) of mothers with cochlear implanted child.
Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that mind-fulness based intervention can improve mental health, marital satisfaction and sleep quality in mothers with cochlear implanted child. Therefore, it is recommended this approach be used to improving the mental health, marital satisfaction, and sleep quality of these mothers.
