Abstract:   (24 Views)
Background and Objectives: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is more common between the ages of 20 and 40 and is the third leading cause of disability in adults. The aim of the present study was to determine the mediating role of mental balance in the relationship between sports mindfulness and visuospatial development and self-awareness in patients with MS.
Materials and Methods: In the present descriptive-correlational study, the statistical population was all patients with MS in Borujerd in 2024-2025, and 300 people were selected as samples by convenient sampling method. The questionnaires of visuospatial development, mental balance, sports mindfulness, and self-awareness were used to collect data. Pearson’s correlation coefficient and structural equation modeling were used to analyze the data.
Results: The findings indicated that the standardized coefficients for the paths from visual-spatial development to mental balance (p<0.001, β=0.60) and self-awareness (p<0.001, β=0.67), as well as the path from mental balance to self-awareness (p<0.001, β=0.57), were statistically significant. Furthermore, it turned out that 34% of the variance of mental balance and 42% of the variance of self-awareness were explained by the present model. In addition, using the bootstrap maximum method showed that mental balance plays a role in the relationship between visuospatial development and sports mindfulness, with self-awareness as a mediating variable.
Conclusion: The findings showed that mental balance has a significant mediating role in the relationship between visual-spatial development and sports mindfulness and self-awareness. Therefore, it is recommended to consider the role of mental balance, visual-spatial development, and sports mindfulness in promoting self-awareness in patients with MS in order to increase mental health and improve their morale to fight this disease.
