Abstract:   (17 Views)
Background and Objectives: Borderline personality disorder in adolescence is associated with symptoms such as identity disturbance and impulsivity, and if not been treated in a timely manner, it can lead to stable harmful patterns in adulthood. The aim of the present study was to determine the effectiveness of Adolescent Identity Treatment (AIT) on borderline personality symptoms, identity disturbance, and impulsivity in adolescents.
Materials and Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with a pret-est, mid-test, and post-test design. The statistical population consisted of all adolescents aged 16–18 years in Shirvan County with symptoms of borderline personality disorder in 2024-2025. Thirty individuals were selected via purposive sampling and randomly assigned to two groups of 15 (experimental and control). In the experimental group, 25 individual AIT sessions for adolescents and 7 individual sessions for their parents were conducted, while the control group received no intervention. Data collection tools included the Structured Clinical Interview for Clinical Disorders, the Structured Clinical Interview for Personality Disorders, and the Millon Adolescent Clinical Inventory. Data were analyzed using two-way repeated measures ANOVA.
Results: The results showed that AIT led to a significant reduction in borderline personality symptoms and identity disturbance in the mid-test and post-test stages (p<0.001). Regarding impulsivity, a significant difference was observed only in the post-test stage (p<0.001).
Conclusion: The current study indicated that AIT is effective in reducing borderline personality symptoms, identity disturbance, and impulsivity in adolescents aged 16–18 years. Therefore, this treatment can be used as an efficient approach for intervention in adolescents with borderline personality traits.
