Background and Objectives: One of the negative consequences of divorce is its detrimental impact on children's emotional and social development. The present study aimed to develop a localized empowerment model for adolescents and assess its effectiveness on social adjustment and future orientation of adolescents with parental divorce.
Materials and Methods: This was a mixed-method exploratory study, consisting of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods phases. In quantitative phase, a quasi-experimental method was employed. The participants included adolescents with parental divorce experience in Yazd City during 2022-2023. Thirty individuals were selected via a convenience sampling method. The California Social Adjustment Inventory (1953) and Seginer's Future Orientation Scale (2009) were used for data collection. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance.
Results: The results of the covariance analysis showed that empowerment model had a significant impact on increasing the social adjustment and future orientation scores in the experimental versus the control group (p<0.05). Also, after adjusting the pre-test effect, the developed counseling package had a significant effect on increasing the social adjustment of adolescents (p<0.001).
Conclusion: According to the current study, it seems that implementation of the empowerment model compiled in this research may improve the cognitive readiness and psycho-emotional empowerment of adolescents with parental divorce, reduce the possibility of distress in their new life, and help them to develop after parental divorce.
